Forgot to pick gas cap in after filling up.
SES came on. Normal. No big deal.
Went to reset after letting it cool down after returning home.
Key icon comes on.
Door is open, chime won’t stop.
Close door, go to reset (hold down miles reset for 5 seconds)
Reset fails to appear, instead yellow exclamation icon shows. Can’t reset SES with miles reset press process.
Car starts. SES still engaged.
Tried non FOB valet key - the second I even touch the area of key insert, the key icon immediately shows.
I wonder how SES from gas cap could lead to where I am now.
Ordered the “BMW” (Chinese) orange colored scanner from Amazon.
Any input on this?

Forgot to mention I read about the rear antenna for FOB issues but baffled how the gas cap SES can trigger antennae issue. But who knows.

Gas cap SES will not go away unless you clear the codes. Also there is not "Press button on dash" trick that I know of, so I am not sure what you were attempting to do.
The easiest would be to get a hand scanner or a blue-tooth dongle to work with your phone, and check/clear codes that way.

Cleared the code (emission diag triggered it apparently)
All is good now.
Not sure why I see the key icon so prominently now. I’m old.

That can be a low battery in the key, but normally a key symbol is non-communications with the key. You can attempt to resync the keys to see if that helps.
