Hello,
Hello all! My son recently bought a 318i with a build date of 6/97. 260k miles. We drove it an hour and brought it back and it sat overnight. The next morning it would crank but not start. Since we didn’t know when the crank and camshaft sensors were last replaced we replaced them. We get no spark and no power to fuel pump. We had canbus errors and could not get a response from DME. We checked relays and we do have power to DME. 3 grounds were checked. Pulled DME and found a quarter sized amount of rust and major issue with DME. I purchased another silver label DME (same numbers) and it now communicates with INPA. I tried syncing EWS2, but don’t see the option F6 to resync it like the videos show on YouTube. I just bought a Vagcom cable (still waiting on Amazon shipping) and am wondering if that will fix it. I am curious if there is something I need to do to get a EWS 2 sync. Any Ideas? Do I need a laptop w/serial output to get this to work? I humbly ask as I am confused now.
There is a small program called EWSsync that should be on the forum, if you can't find it I should have it somewhere.

Click the search button, select "search single content type", select the "e36 sub forum" specifically, try the "search titles" then try the "search entire posts".
Thank you. I finally have found my way around INPA. I did find where to go to program the EWS. But it’s asking for the ISP. I am having trouble finding any info on how to synchronize a e36 318i. If EWSsynch is easier I’ll try that. If you have the link I’d appreciate it.

that is a long thread, one states:
"Thanks, the tool worked great for my e39 (3/98) which has a ms41.0 and an ews 3.2
Of course it can be done with inpa too. But your tool is much more convenient.
ps: the last 4 digits of the dme production number are equal to the ISN. Must be converted to hex and if >4096 (decimal) need to subtract 4096 first"
I uploaded EWSsync, my web browser was blocking me from using the link in that old thread:

Post a pic of your ride! You might have to use a free pic host because you don't have enough forum posts yet.

Just wondering, did it have any issues before you purchased the car?
Glad you got it to work, that the best feeling for sure!
Sorry to dig up an old thread, i PM'd you wondering if you could upload these files again, it would be much appreciated!
Link updated. Good luck
wow, so only one person will be allowed to dl that file using file.io website, that is their dl limit for the free plan lol. I guess thats good for a personal use case, they allow 2gb file size on the free plan.
