I bought a 99 323i vert with no top (no frame etc.) except it does have two motors in the trunk. It used to be fully auto so it has a fully auto control module. I’ve found a fully auto and a semi auto junkyard car with an intact top and have been planning to swap one into mine. Should I go with the semi auto due to problems I may encounter with fully auto? And if I do what all would that involve and could I keep my current control module? Or would it be worth it to keep it fully auto? Lastly, how would I be able to test my motors now to see if they even work? I was thinking maybe tampering with the switches that check the position of the top to see if the tonneau latch works, because right now it doesn’t latch and doesn’t sit evenly because it’s not even latched.
I have swapped many full, semi and manual assemblies onto E36s. Less motors = less headaches.
I'm about to swap my semi-automatic to manual.
I have the manual latches, cords, transfer box, handle, etc...
Any advice before I jump in?
Do I need to remove the two motors to make it work?
