Style 20 Refinish Help

e34 Crew, I scored a complete set for style 20 wheels

Staggered set of 17x8E20 and 17x9E22 with 4 perfect turbo fans 2L and 2R with all metal centers


The turbo fans are currently painted red, and the wheels have clearly been painted a time or two. Also not one once of hate or shade to the seller, these are amazing wheels in great condition, but I'm looking to take them to the next level with a refinish. So thank you 1000x for them, couldn't be happier with them.


So my question to anyone who has done it, did you get the entire wheel redone in black, then the lip polished, or is it masked off?

Is it sacrilegious to just do the whole thing in BMW silver, as you cant really see the rim anyway, saving my powder coat guy the headache? (leaning this way)

Plans at the moment are wheels, covers, and caps in silver, with the turbo fans black, or possibly yellow to match my calipers but leaning black.

Looking for input here so help me out, what would you do????

Not much fanatical purism here, so do whatever floats your boat. I just happened to refinish my Nakedstars (minus the covers), coincidentally enough. I did them all black except a thin bare metal ring at the outermost edge of the rim, and another where the lip begins. Photos pending... I'd say it's good sense to do the whole rim silver for the reason you mentioned. My opinion of what to do for the rest depends on how the rest of the car looks, so let's see it!

I've refinished these a few different ways, I actually really liked that all silver, naked look.
