E24 Over center clutch pedal spring

I am replacing pedal bracket and clutch pedal spring. The old spring was broken. I cannot figure out where the bottom of the spring sits. Does anyone have an idea? Does it just sit back against the cabin firewall? Thanks!

There is, from memory, a little notch in the steering column support mounting bracket. I remember this because I did an E28 auto/manual swap, and I had to swap the steering column's entire mounting. (This is the box section which holds the column)

Thanks Chris. A little late getting back around to it, but it does not go back anywhere on the inner firewall but fits nicely on the notch that is already a part of the pedal box. I am surprised I seem to be the only person that has struggled putting it back in after replacement.

I'm doing the same work you did a year ago. Do you have any photos or wisdom to impart. I can't figure out exactly where the spring rests and how to get the whole thing back together with the loaded spring. Hard to imagine that it doesn't bolt to something!

Any help would be most appreciated.

See the little tab sticking out of the far left edge of the "supporting bracket" (#1)? I THINK that's probably where the over-center spring locates....it's been a very long time since I was in the deep footwell of an E24, but really, there shouldn't be many choices within reach of the spring base.

I was looking for something with two holes in it, but it sits nicely in that tab. Getting the bolt through with the spring was a bear, but got it done yesterday.

    Thank you Chris!
