Driver's side wiper flutter

I saw this discussion on the E32 group Facebook page. I know when I change my wiper blades they work very smoothly for months and then (and maybe because of the Florida heat) the driver's side starts jumping around. I spend time cleaning them and then eventually after getting disgusted I buy a new set. People on the Facebook page are talking about a grommet that gets rid of this and it's only for the driver's side. Anybody ever replace this thing? I never knew it existed.

Interesting. Do you know exactly where that grommet is located on the wiper mechanism? Your post reminded me of a note I entered in my maintenance spreadsheet some time ago that states - "Check the windshield wiper rubber dampener grommets, are they missing?" -however I can't remember for the life of me when or why I noted that, and of course I wasn't smart enough to write down any additional info... I must have read a thread talking about this on the forums or something.

EDIT: that part number (61611374257) in the ebay listing that you linked comes up as #16 in this realoem diagram and is called a "Damper ring":

There's also a different grommet, also called "Damper ring", on the passenger side wiper - part number 61611384123.

Thread title can only be changed by a mod, done.
the damper ring is there to avoid noise and movement of the wiper system mounted on the chassis, see here the pics where we changed one with a self made rubber ring http://e32b12.blogspot.com/2013/03/w...nge-noise.html In case these damper rings are broken, then one can move the complete wiper system, although the screws are tightened.

Thank you. Although the EBay seller says this grommet is for the driver's side only, for eleven bucks I bought two. I'll give them to my guy when he does my shocks in another month or so. It would be amazing if after an installation of such a small thing the chatter doesn't come back. I'll also explain the fix you stated about the angle of the wiper blade. I don't think this is something the average BMW tech has any idea about. But if there is a special tool for this, I'm guessing Peter at German Auto has it. We'll see. Thanks again.

That's an excellent video! Clever idea using the towel under the wrench; when I adjusted the angle of my driver's side wiper I used two vise grips (locking pliers) and put thick pieces of plastic between the jaws and the arm. It worked well but did scuff the paint on the wiper arm in one small spot.
