Posting here in the 5 series section for the first time. prob not a good look since I'm here to yell at you prior M5 owners, vent... and ask a favor.
In shopping for a new to me 2018-2020 M5 vs M5 competition (M5C), I've found possible misbadging rampant across the nation. The visual cues are all I have to go on since I'm shopping online nationwide and confirming with VIN decoder. What's worse is many dealers are acquiring base M5s with competition badges just slapped on the back from previous owners, not knowing any better and pricing them higher as if they are indeed competitions.
Now I have to either pay more for a M5 base or sort thru hordes of fauxmpetitions to identify a real one reasonably priced!
Is this a thing? Is this like a regular thing or am I taking crazy pills?
I've also sort of lost faith in the decoder I'm using (https://www.mdecoder.com)... Is it really that accurate?
This car I was hoping to buy, for example, the seller insists that the car is a comp. But it's got chrome kidneys and tailpipes, color matched side mirrors and some weirdo aftermarket rear diffuser. Can anyone verify it's true identity?
VIN: WBSJF0C58KB448366
It's that even allowed?!?
Sorry for rant, thanks for reading and much appreciated in advance! Hopefully I'll join the ranks here with a new M5.
PSA: have pride in what you bought and stop pretending because now this s**** costing me too!

I love my car.
Does this help?

I took all the M5 badges I could off the outside of my M5, but there are still some giveaways like the side grill locations higher up on the front fenders.
