    VIN lookup help

    Team,

I have a question. I am looking at a 6-series / E24 which is specified as an Alpina vehicle.

I have a VIN number, WBAEC7108D8173368, but I am not having much luck on understanding what is the vehicle history. I did pull a car fax that shows the vehicle was imported, but I am hoping that this forum might give me some more details on this vehicle and whether this is a true Alpina version or not.

    Thanks,

    -Marcial

Its an 1983 car - you will have a problem finding out any data from BMW (before the alleged Alpina conversion) unless you find the "Laufzettel" - its a paper with all of the data of the car like colour exterior/interior and all the extras the car had. It will be glued behin the rear right seat, rarely behing the left seat (if he seats are orignal to the car).
If you find it take a photo of it and send it to hdz.info@bmwgroup.com and they will decode it for you.

Now for the alpina part - all of the alpinas i saw had the original VIN crossed out and got another VIN stamped - always starting with WAP and not WBA. Exception are the 7 digit VIN cars (pre 1979) but yours is not that.

@LeonardoL: I wasn't aware that BMW had a decoder service, thanks for the link!

@mlapp: I'd suspect that BMW didn't keep records on Alpina VINs, especially that early. I'd guess it's possible they have a record of the original vehicle before Alpina took delivery. Did you reach out to Alpina for assistance? Alpina Classic. I've heard they are quite rapid with responses, but I haven't dealt with them personally.

MDecoder did retrieve a little info from the BMW database:
