    1988 M6 HVAC Panel removal

    Hi guys,

I recently removed the gauge cluster in my car to have it restored. I figured that this might be a good time to see if I can replace the little U-joint that connects to the temperature dial on the HVAC panel. My question is how do I get the passenger side of the panel to release from the dash. I see the 2 screws on the driver side that need to be removed and then I see 2 screws under the fan speed knob that might need to come out but this is where I get stuck. I just dont want to force anything so I figured I would ask.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Have a great Holiday weekend!

    Chuck

I have a unit on a shelf somewhere, let me find it and shoot pictures of it so you can see the attachment sites.

Guess you have to pull the switches out to reveal screws behind each.

Thanks Rob!! That’s what I was afraid of. Is there a trick to pulling the switch’s without boogering them up?

Well they just pull out, try using a rubber glove to grab and rock it a little. May be able to get enough separation to pry it out with a tiny (eyeglasses) screwdriver. It's intuitive and you cannot hurt much......

Thanks again Rob for those pics of the HVAC panel, that was a big help. So I was able to pull the Hazzard switch out then just reached in and pushed the AC switch out. Once those little screws above the Hazzard and below the AC switches came out replacing that U-joint was pretty straightforward. While I was in there I took the time to clean out the ductwork and the panel, looks much better. Thanks again for the help!

Absolutely! If it helps others out in the future then we all win.
