Lost my only key!

So hello I’ve had my e39 for like a year now and we’ll third time is a charm right? I have a BIG issue. Only had one key. Lost the key ordered a key from the dealership (closest one is 3 hours) haven’t had my car for a week now. Anyway got my key in the mail and it don’t even start my car. So what do I do next? I’ve been doin my homework on this thing and it’s my baby lol but does the bypass of the wiring splitting the ews does it really work? Somebody jus please help me thanks

Welcome to the forum.
The dealer should have sent you a key that was programmed for your VIN. Have you called them?
The key communicates with the EWS and then the DME which will then allow the starter, the fuel pump, injectors, and coils to work so it will start.
Even if you have the EWS bypass done the key still has to be programmed to your VIN so the DME will allow the other items to function.
You need to get a second key!

Yep, key still needs to be programmed. If ordering another key is too much, at least order the base key that comes with the chip, but without the transmitter. It’s a lot cheaper, will get the car started if you lose that main key again.
