So my 1998 e39 which now has 300K miles on it, had it's ignition Cylinder malfunction, where the key would start rotating 360 degrees. It sometimes would start, but had to really play with it. Si I called the dealer and after they took my license and proof of Registration and VIN, they ordered a new Cylinder for me. My mechanic installed the new cylinder but the car does not start. Key goes in, you can turn to position 1 and 2 and the dashboard lights come on, but then when you try to crank it, Nothing. The steering column goes up and down fine, all the console lights turn on but the car will not start. The mechanic confirmed that the old cylinder had a pin broken hence the 360 rotation, so the old one was definitely defective, but if you had it in the right position it would start the car.
What should I do next? Did the dealer program it wrong? i tried both the current and spare key and still the same result. Do I have to reset something? Am I missing a step?
Thanks guys
The step you are missing is to report the stored codes.

What does that mean? run an obd?
I think something was left unplugged.
Like the antenna ring. The switch turns on the electrical, the antenna ring activates the ews and crank.
There is no programming of the tumbler, besides matching the key, which you didn't replace.
That's correct, i kept the original key which is atleast turning fine.
Antenna ring? have any more pointers on that?
Problem resolved. It wasn't plugged in correctly, redoing it worked. No need for programming etc. Thanks all for your help
