This may be a slightly strange post, but I'm wonder as far as cost, sound, performance gain, and complexity of installation which is "better" a catted downpipe or a cat-back exhaust? My car is a lease and I have no plans to keep it, plan to replace with either M2 or M3 manual, but in the mean time I'd like some sound out of the car (miss the M-Performance exhaust on my ZHP) and a little extra grunt wouldn't hurt either.
My question would be why bother? A lease car is just that, you will have to put everything back to stock and now you will have parts that probably won't fit your next car.
The easiest way to get sound out of it is to toss on a cone filter. Not difficult to do and pretty cheap.

You ask a valid question. I asked about adding the M-Sport exhaust before delivery but the dealer said it wasn't available at that time. I think that exhaust sound is one of the most enjoyable aspects of a vehicle, but the 22' M340 is pretty quiet. Yes, I would have to put it back at trade in (cant sell BMW leases retail any more ), but the extra enjoyment for between 1-2 more years would be worth it. I'll look into a cone filter, but really want some more bark out of it. There is a company called Carenwall that modifies stock Porsche exhausts for more/better sound, is there anything like that in the BMW community?
Remus is a German company that does a good job IMHO on a nice exhaust note. Borla is another company, but I am not sure if they make one for the G-20. Also you can buy one from the parts department, a performance exhaust like this one: https://www.thebmwminipartstore.com/...20-18302464492
I would just stick with a cat-back or just the rear muffler section only, that is where most of your sound will come from.

+1 for REMUS they are one of the largest aftermarket exhaust companies with over 1000 employees.
They also make the OEM system for a number of exotic European brands such as Alfa Romeo, Mercedes (AMG division),etc...
I had the pleasure of visiting their factory in Austria and their resources are second to none.
