was thinking to get in touch with a manufacturer to buy a small quantity of parts (start off with something simple as headlights lol) for resale. anyone done this and how profitable was it? what sourcing discounts should i expect and how much markup?
forget it, small qty = you will not get much discount = no competitive enduser prices. Enduser prices are controlled by the big players in the market which order from the manufacturers in large volumes with high discounts. The same is with discounts from manufacturers to wholesellers = large volume orders = big discounts. You need to register a company + pay business tax. In worst case you might make losses. Take a look at competitors in all sales channels sites. See how they price their parts + get an understanding of whether or not you will be able to compete. Once you have the price level points that you need to hit, contact suppliers for pricing quotes. Check the min. order qty to determine if it is sustainable for your business.

realistic sourcing price depends on qty! 5,10,50, 100, 1000 sets? contact Depo directly with a minimum qty and you will see https://www.depoautolamp.com/index_en.php

yup thats gonna be a problem. i think i have to revisit my business model lol
Hobby? Sure. Make money? Forget it, you and a million others in China who seem to have subsidized shipping* to USA that are selling the same junk and fighting over pennies.
* how is it I cannot send ANY parcel across the street for less than ~ $5 when I can buy an item from a Chinese seller and have it shipped from China via the USPS and pay only $3 including the shipping? USPS is giving them something for nothing.
Not sure how Norway is being screwed but I imagine a similar scenario.
