Oil temp questions

First post and ‘new’ BMW guy. Former Porsche owner for past 20+ years.
Ok, I’m a track rat also and enjoyed my first taste of driving a BMW on track. (Right seated many but first drive at speed) I have an ‘07 328i with manual 6sp and Sport Suspension Package.
I was seeing oil temps above 260 and limited my lapping based on temps.
What is normal hot temp for spirited driving? Ambient was 80-85F, so a hot day.
I’d like to add oil cooling but am not finding reasonable kits. What has shown to work? I’m all ears! Thanks in advance. Tony

That's a tad high, are you running 5W-30? With my E-46 M3, I do tend to see temps that high during hard driving, but I have an oil cooler. I would take a close look at the cooling system, for that is what runs thru the oil filter housing to cool the oil down. Also check out "E90 Hidden Menu" This will allow you to also see water temp, voltage, ect.

If this is going to be a more dedicated track car, would be worth going with a heavier oil for the abuse, say like a 5W-40 T6 Rotella.
