Really could use some help for elderly relative that lost husband 2009 328i owner. Does anyone know some good BMW shops in Austin TX in case she is having a tranny issue?
She is feeling some vibration. She took it to a local franchise who told her around $4000 of repairs were needed except then they came back later and said it was her transmission. Quoted her $5000 for tranny but he would not be able to program it. I told her not to have them do any work. Car drives fine including over 60 mph. Does not sound like there is any tranny slippage so I dont know why he told her she needs a new tranny but just in case she does is there a great place to go in Austin? I'm hoping it might be a mount or sensor or anything that is not the whole tranny. She is really frazzled. Thanks in advance.
I bet it’s the dreaded tranny shudder. If it’s the GM transmission that’s what it is. There was a TSB, but that has expired. I had ATX Bimmer service and flush mine and the shudder stopped. They are in Buda BTW.
Thanks so much for the reply. Can you go in to a bit more detail? What is the problem that causes the shudder? If all it takes is the fluid being flushed would it be okay to have the dealer do it? I do not think she would mind paying dealer prices if all it takes to fix it is a tranny fluid flush instead of replacing a tranny itself. I'm not familiar with ATX Bimmer Service but I will try to look them up.
After looking in to the shudder I noticed that a BMW additive was recommended to be added during the tranny fluid change. Has anyone used that additive or something similar?
March down to the dealer and buy the additive. Kind of a no brainer. That said depending on the additive quantity, you may have to drain some tranny fluid out.
