    17111723031 for the shroud.
    17212244084 for the oil cooler.
    17112227281 for the radiator.

If you look around you can find the oil cooler pretty cheap, I paid less than $170 for mine directly from BMW within the last 2 years.
Lol - we believe you! Please don't go do all that work just to get a pic!

With both Z3M radiators currently backordered, it might come down to using the CSF just because of availability.

I'm gone for the next month or so - we'll have to see what's available when I get home.

Are 6, 8, and 10 in this diagram required? I don't see how this stuff bolts up or what its purpose is.

thats the retainer on the alternator area for the cooler lines. you can see them in the pics on the previous page. i would very much so recommend running that not to wear out the compression fitting of the cooler lines to the oil filter housing, or just convert everything to AN fittings.

I was just looking at that picture. That makes sense - looks like it is supposed to bolt to the alternator with that #13 bolt?

Not ideal, but what about having HVAC blowing hot during a session? Additional radiator for free, you already have the windows down...

Looks new, but did it come 'warped' like that?

Oh, we did that! It helped, but it was just. SO. HOT!

Yeah, that is brand new - this was a pic he took during the install.

Yes brand new. It was dark out and I had my ScanGrip Multimatch 8 blasting on it in that photo that's sort of accentuates the shaded areas making it look worse than it does.

Also if you are running the GT front splitter you will need to cut it for the support bars (it is premarked on the duct where you need to cut)

Great thread!!!...I have been wondering about this ever since I got my CSF radiator and saw the tabs at the bottom...i have one question...what is the verdict of the s54 oil filter housing vs the euro e36 oil filter housing? My assumptions are that they are the same with the exception of the oil feed line, 12mm vs 14mm?

You can buy adapter bolt for the vanos hose. And AN adapter fittings are available to convert the cooler hardlines to hose. I have been running these parts on my 99M3 for about 8 years though I capped the AN ports and am not using a cooler (street car).

The oil filter housing is the same part number for Euro E36 M3, Z3 S54, E46 M3, and Z4 S54.

So, what's the part number for the oil cooler thermostat?

This has been nagging at me - that I needed to put in a fresh thermostat. I see the bypass parts from Bimmerworld, but I don't see a part number in RealOEM for a replacement thermostat.

    What's the deal?

all i found useful in a quick search.

i can see bmw not selling the parts anymore, typical... its probably plenty reliable living in an oil bath in the filter housing. but bimmerworlds diverter kit looks rather desirable to me, especially if what im reading about a wax motor is accurate. these parts seemed bullet proof in e30's though.

Yeah, all i found was similar oblique discussions.

I don't think it was EVER available - it's not listed in RealOEM. It's definitely changed my mind about buying a used housing.

Since this is primarily a street car, I don't think it's a good idea running the diverter valve. But maybe I'll call them. And I could always block off the cooler in colder weather....

Schmiedmann is FINALLY back from summer vacation tomorrow!

One final detail - the spacer for the oil filter housing is only required on an S54, correct?

    I did!

I don't actually have an oil temp sender - I just track water temp via OBD.

Having said that, I can tell when the oil cooler thermostat opens up - the water temps plateau for a while before the fan finally kicks on (in traffic). If I'm moving it never gets hotter than 194*, but this is really no different than before the cooler install.

I have not been on track yet this year and it hasn't really gotten hot yet, either. I really won't know until I get on track in 95+ ambient. My last session last September - 97* late afternoon, fully heat soaked - saw the car get up to 223 at the very end of the session. This was with the new Z3 / Euro radiator, and the aluminum pan and the front GT splitter, but with a hole where the oil cooler should have been. I just didn't have time to install it before I needed to leave.

do you have any idea what temperature the oil cooler's thermostat is set to open at? it sounds like this oil cooler is overkill for a street driven application though

Has anyone looked into the comparison between Z3M and 325TDS radiators and oil coolers? Different part numbers but they look identical, only difference I could think of (again just from images) is maybe core thickness? I believe the Z3M coolers have been harder to get lately.

    TDS:
    • Radiator: 17212244753
    • Oil Cooler: 17212244741

    Z3M
    • Radiator: 17212227281
    • Oil Cooler: 17212244084

Lines and oil filter housing are obviously different, but it looks like this could be another option here for the coolers. There is someone on ebay selling fully aluminum TDS oil coolers for 150GBP which notes they work on Z3M as well. Obviously OEM is ideal but figured I'd throw this out there...
