    Oil Pan Gasket Replacement - 04' X3 E83

    Hello guys,

Hope you all are doing well. I have a quick question & tips on replacing the oil pan gasket for those who has done this. My 2004 X3 E83 w/140K miles is leaking oil and I had an indy shop diagnosed it and they said, it's the oil pan gasket is what the oil is leaking from. It's not leaking severely like the OFH gasket leak like I had before, but it's annoying. Besides the oil pan gasket and new bolts, is there anything else I might have to buy to do this job? Any tips & tricks would greatly be appreciate it!

Please let me know. Thanks in advance!

    Have a great day folks!!

    Jay

New input and output seals for the diff, new o-ring for between the diff and the sump, new drive axle nuts. You have the M54 so your pan bolts are reusable. Now is the time to replace your worn out engine mounts. No RTV needed anywhere.

If the job takes more than 10 hrs, hang up your tools.

There are several pretty good YouTube videos about the procedure, the one I’ve watched repeatedly is “50’s kid” a two part one. It is rather involved, and apparently the dealer estimate is for 15 hrs. Labor. The engine has to be supported from above and the subframe lowered for access. I’m currently in the middle of it, working outdoors so weather dependent. Several weeks of lousy weather but haven’t hung up my tools yet!
