Well on the way to work this morning the windshield trim flew off at about 80mph. The windshield was replaced recently and new clips installed. Not sure if they were poor quality clips or didn't fit well, but the trim ripped off on the highway.
The trims pieces are 275 EACH SIDE new and that is just an insane price for trim that I can't justify.
Does anybody have suggestions on what kind of universake molding might look okay or perform well?
Pictures would be great. I'm also willing to buy some in good condition if able, but I know that's almost impossible.
Thanks..

This happened to me 3 years ago. I said f-it and ripped off the rest of the front and back windshield trim / clips, cleaned the edge of the glass so it looks normal.. and I forgot about the incident completely. It doesn't look weird either, no one has ever noticed it hehe.
In all seriousness, no leaks, no wind sound, no issue. If you want pics for ref. then I got ya.
I had this exact happen to me as well recently at 85mph. Had new glass installed 4 or 5 years ago, they didn't do a great job, I think they had glued the trim into the clips with sealant. Mine bent backwards and slapped the drivers window so it's all bent up and I am looking for a new one at the junkyard. Would a rock hitting the exposed edge of the glass cause it to crack? I love pick n' pull, dirt cheap pricing, you can probably grab one for $5 -$10 there.

Sure thing!
Mind you I'm in the middle of doing a few upgrades, explaining the tires on the trunk and what not. Regardless, hope these pics help!

Why not put this is the lap of the hackers that installed the glass?

You can have a glass shop replace the trim with "Christmas Tree" windshield gasket, the finished product looks very similar to the stock trim.
I went with a new bmw style gasket so the water can flow and hopefully not rust in the future. I really like the look!

That looks very good. Can you tell us exactly what the glass shop installed or what they called it?
