    Quirk or not...passenger door mirror....

    2004 E46...330ci
Done a lot of searching and...no info.
When shifting into reverse the passenger side door mirror tilts down. Then shifting into D...tilts back up. Not every time though does it tilt down. Maybe a quirk? Some sort of wiring issue?

It's a feature. Move the mirror selector switch to the other position to disable it.

And here the information is in the owners manual! I need better glasses! And need a new mirror....tilts down but won't return up. Set the seat memory also and played around with the setting and mirror still won't return to the original position. Various posts say...the ribbon cable. And expensive.

It's a feature, not a bug. And yes, it's expensive to fix. My E46 works, but my E39 does the exact same as yours. Somebody said it was the door module, so I replaced it and it didn't help. The only other part could be the mirror motor, and those are stupid expensive. So... I just move the mirror selector to turn it off. It's nice, sometimes, when parallel parking. Otherwise it is pretty worthless, IMO.

On my 2004 Cabriolet, I couldn't disable it and neither mirror was adjustable. Many learned other owners said the fix was replacing the drivers side mirror. I sold the car before I did that.
