    Weird Wet Spot E36

    Hello everyone,

I have a weird wet spot on my e36. It’s behind the carpet near brake pedal (please see the video). I tried to renew my door seals, but it’s no help as this is the second time it happens. I realise it happens either I drive or park on a heavy rain.

Also, this spot links with the rail chassis. I use a blower in this hole and there’s air out of small hole on rail chassis.

This is my last effort for my e36. If this issue can’t be fixed, I have to let my e36 go… So anyone has an idea, please help!

    Huy

What you do is use a garden hose and only wet one area at a time while someone is on the inside carefully watching.

The blower box mounts on the firewall near that point. And the cowl drain for the windshield also funnels into there. I'd poke around under the plastic cowl trim and make sure the drains aren't clogged up with dirt and leaves. Pic of leafy area for reference. Pull up the plastic trim and look carefully with a light.

This is what I found when I poured some water down the windscreen. A corner is a bit flat and water goes through the seal leaks down through a hole on the rail chassis then go straight to the wet spot.

I will weld a metal piece to the flat spot and make sure there’s no water going down the firewall.

Thanks for all your suggestions! Great community!

There's a drain in that corner under the plastic cover. I'm betting it's clogged.

I haven’t checked that spot but seal couldn’t fully cover. You can see in the picture there’s a flat spot on the edge and that’s where water leaks through engine bay.

    A few
First check the drains under the cowl. If you just weld a plate, as you suggested, you may be treating the symptom and not the root cause.
