    What does this pipe do ??

    I recently bought a 1989 (I think) 318i (M40) here in Thailand where I live. There is a mangled pipe that runs from the back of the engine, under the intake manifold and connects to the large diameter pipe that connects to the MAF. I have been unable to source a replacement and was wondering what function it serves. Could I just replace it with a length of flexible hose ?

    Idle Air Control, a good piece of hose should work.
