Oil leak problems for F10 528i

    Hey all,
I am having a bit of an issue. After my oil was changed, along with a new plastic plug and o-ring, I started to get some leaks coming from what I believe is the drain pan. It is a fairly slow leak but it is hard to pinpoint where it is coming from without setting the car on a vehicle lift and watching it for awhile. I believe the plug was a metal plug but it was recently changed to an OEM plastic plug that was torqued to 8ft-lbs (8Nm).

Has anyone experienced a similar issue when switching from a metal plug to a plastic plug? When I was under the vehicle I did not see any cracks in the pan nor did the female threads on the pan looked stripped. I am almost out of ideas as to where it is coming from and what might fix it. Do you guys know where I could find a good plug that meets spec? I am thinking it might be worth a shot finding a metal one again and seeing if that solves the problem. The vehicle is a 2014 528i (not an Xdrive).

This is the filter I used. I did not use the copper washer. Where does it even go?

    Thanks,

This variant (non xdrive) only uses a plastic drain plug, there is no metal plug. The washer in the kit is for the X Drive model with an alloy pan and metal drain plug.

I am assuming you purchased the plastic drain plug separately has there is an oil filter kit for the non X Drive model (MANN HU 816Z)(11 42 7 953 125) that includes the plastic drain plug.

This plug is torqued to 8 newton meters or MAX 6 ft lbs.

Where it is leaking from is anybody's guess, this plastic pan does not leak that often so you should probably start by replacing the drain plug (11 13 7 605 018) and torqueing it to the correct spec. Then wash down the area and reinspect for leaks.

    Mark.

If any oil is spilled during an engine oil change, then the panels under the engine retain and then slowly release the oil. I spilled oil while changing the filter, then eventually got tired of seeing the drips, jacked up the car and wiped down the panels and the plates under the engine. The drips stopped.
