All dual vanos engines are aluminum block. You can probably make your power goals with the aluminum block if you install timeserts in all the head bolt holes. You can also use a single vanos m52 engine in an E39 with some custom ecu tuning, or with some modification to the cylinder head you can put the dual vanos parts from the M54 onto the single vanos M50 or M52 cylinder head.

If m54 with timeserts and other supporting mods can give me max~700whp with some reliability, I can be ok with that.
I am more inclined on using existing engine as the swap will take time plus getting wiring work with new engine will be a task as I have very less time to give to this build. Reason I am planning manual and not 8hp(which was my original plan) and retain oe ecu. Want to keep it as simple as possible by compromising little on power goals. I am at that part of life where I can't be busy in the build all time nor I can give it alot of time atleast for an year and half.
