    So I jumped the wrong pins on the fan relay...

    97 m3 ls1

    Fan wasn't kicking on, popped the res cap. To cool down I jumped the fuel pump relay 87 to 85 like a dummy.
    Nice magic smoke comes out and now I have crank no start. Replaced fuel pump.
    Where did I send power inappropriately?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the link. I got it home so I can diagnose later. Tried a new pump but no fuel.

    Looking at the schematic, you burnt the trigger on the ECU side, which is low-current and ground switching.
    GG, 1 hit kill.
    Also to be clear, you didn't send power anywhere inadvertently, you just overloaded the ECU's Activate Relay output.

    This^.
    I believe the coil drivers are discreet transistors which can be serviced, perhaps same for this. Good luck.
    Oh, couldn't resist, perhaps you need a laugh;
