Clearly Martin Banks has never had the pleasure of recommissioning a long standing car and simply regurgitates what he's read or heard elsewhere.
For long term storage draining most of the fluids is best. Gasoline turns into varnish, coolant into corrosive sludge, brake fluid into jelly. Fresh engine, transmission and gearbox/diff oil should remain unless VERY long storage.
One of his suggestions; "If you want to be extra careful, hold on to the spark plugs to prevent anyone from jumpstarting your vehicle and stealing it. Reinstall them when you return and drive off in a full, healthy BMW!" is beyond absurd.
Leaving the combustion chambers open is asking, no begging, for trouble. Do so at your own peril.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
