Finding replacement door locks for my car was doing my head in - I hope this info helps someone else.
I was searching for the correct part to replace a damaged Driver's Side door lock barrel on my car.
04/1986 Euro spec E24, Right Hand Drive
Serial #: 1887115 (Australian Delivered)
Parts Diagram for reference:

Notes:
Check YOUR car's VIN with RealOEM. There are too many different door lock combinations to list here.
- Pre Sep-1983 cars use a 4-pin barrel with no dead-lock ability. Key only turns 45 degrees to lock.
- Post Sep-1983 cars use a 5-pin barrel with a dead-lock. Key turns 90 degrees to dead lock.
- Post 1983 parts are apparently able to be retro-fitted into older cars, but do your own research to verify.
- #4 Catch assembly WITHOUT key is coded to the original VIN. This comes pre-set to match the original lock issued with the VIN.
- #1 Catch assembly WITH a key is NOT coded to the original VIN. It includes a new key pre-cut to match the new lock.
These parts DO NOT include extra pins or shims needed to code to any key like uncoded "Lock repair kits" do.
- #11 Lock Cylinder repair kits are NOT coded to VIN
These include extra pins and shims needed to code to any key.
Parts for Right Hand Drive (RHD) cars:
RHD Driver Door
51219061346 - (#11) REPAIR KIT LOCK CYLINDER RIGHT CODE* 10001. No Longer Available.
51211886520 - (#4) Full catch and lock assembly, WITHOUT a key. VIN Coded. No Longer Available.
VIN coded to suit the original key code for that chassis number.
51211886522 - (#1) Full catch and lock assembly, WITH a key (bundles #4 and #2). NOT VIN coded.
Includes a new key to match the new lock. A locksmith could match this to your existing keys if needed.
It appears that #11 may originally have been an uncoded cylinder repair kit (51219061346), now no longer available and superseded by a VIN coded, whole catch assembly 51211886520 or 51211886522.
RHD Passenger Door
51219556325 - (#11) Repair kit lock cylinder left. No Longer Available.

Parts for Left Hand Drive (LHD) cars:
These are NOT interchangeable with RHD cars. I believe the lock rotation is different or something.

I received my new RHD Driver's Door lock assembly this week.
51211886522 - (#1) Full catch and lock assembly, WITH a key. NOT VIN coded.
Includes a new key to match the new lock.
I took the lock and key to my local locksmith (also an E30 owner) and enquired about matching the new lock to the old key.
Long story short: It can be done, but they don't have the internal lock wafers that match the key ridges.
You can see the lock wafers as Part # 11 above.
He said the best thing would be to bring the old lock in as well, and they can change-over the old wafers to the new lock, making it match the old key again.
Here's some pics of the new assembly for reference.
(Don't know why I can't embed them in the post sorry...)

An update after many months of "robust discussions" with my local BMW Dealer's parts department.
Bottom-line:
BMW Germany are sending out mis-assembled parts (at least for the RH Door Lock on a RHD vehicle)
The mounting bracket has been assembled upside down.
My parts department gave me permission (with warranty) to correctly reassemble the bracket.
Parts affected:
51211886522 - Catch with key, Right, CODE* 10001 EURO RHD
The solution is very simple:
1. Remove the flat pin and spring from the actuator arm
2. Separate the key barrel from the bracket
3. Rotate the bracket so it points down
Optional: Take your old and new key barrel to a locksmith to change out the wafers so all your keys are matched.
4. Reassemble
