    Painting over VIN

The area under the windshield cowl of my coupe E36 looks a mess and is rusty. I want to sand it down and paint it and was thinking primer + rattlecan factory paint code + clear coat on top. Nothing fancy. Not even set on if i want clear coat or not.

I have never painted before really, and i'm wondering if it's going to make my VIN not readable. Filling up the stampings with paint and primer?
