Will be fitting 360mm e90 M3 rotors with Aston Martin DB9 Brembos up front
I'm happy with Hyper's BBKoB.
Fixes some weakness in the original spec.
Quite good enough for everyday street.
High quality brake pads, Motul 600 high temp brake fluid, steel braided brake lines in place of all flexible brake lines throughout the brake line system. Internally a clean and fully operational ABS pump/valve assembly.
( When really going, the ABS system was activating EVERY TIME when on the brakes )

Best is a relative term!!
Shortest stopping distance in a straight line?
Least chassis upset when braking while cornering?
Better thermal performance without changing the brake bias?
ETC.
The optimal option is balanced brake bias and thermal performance.
Actually, all thing relative to BEST in vehicle suspension dynamics are connected to BALANCED.
Without a balanced F/R brake setup a larger front brake rotor setup will be overloaded (overheated) by an increase in the front brake bias and often causes brake induced understeer.
Since the typical E31 suspension is already biased toward understeer adding brake induced understeer just further complicates the steering and performance cornering dynamics.
So that begs the question, what is the rear brake setup?
With that, I offer a rear brake upgrade path.

My car has Hyper's BBKoB. Its a well devised setup I think. It works and it looks pretty cool (nothing is worth doing unless you look cool doing it). My only complaint is the front brake cylinders are slightly larger than stock resulting in a longer softer pedal. Most of the time I don't notice it but when I'm hooning it I usually yearn for a stiffer racecar brake pedal.
Not since 3 yrs, but UPS still works.
Archived here in SoCal: 25 bracket pairs, a small collection of NIB rotors, front and rear, a small collection of oem calipers, front and rear, some rebuilt, some waiting.
Summer? I'm not looking for a biz op anymore, but for a single adventurer with some talent, I could dust off the install docs, put together a kit.

Re: m6bigdog: BALANCED, rear brakes
Yep, that's what makes it "work", meaning feels correct, controlled and comfortable on the street.
...combined with the factory low-slung.
Y'all would hate more front, absent the other two pieces.

Re: LappingLuke: Larger front brake cylinder?
Hyper's BBKoB remounts the existing unmodified front caliper (ATE or brembo-style) to a new radius.
It's the rears that get larger, to BALANCE out what is done up front, and yours has the 42mm in place of the stock 40.
iirc, your ex-Alex840 also stayed solid 12mm rotor, a better choice than my vented 20, because its lighter and still adequate for street.
Thanks for the correction!
I have brackets that allow the use of VIPER Brembo calipers and larger 9X M3 rotors

On my S70 car I have these Brembos.

On my old M70 Manual car I had (as Hyper already mentioned) BBKoB. Which is more than sufficient for spirited driving. Tested at limit on Twisties Highway 9 CA at 5 am a couple years back.
