    Cool CA Smog Test Done

The Car failed the 1st test due to Catalytic Converter being aged and out of Warranty over 5yr/50,000 miles from date of Install. I had bought a still valid Catalytic Converter a few yrs back and got it welded in and retested passed with flying colors. In Cal test every 2 yrs for older cars , new ones are exempt for a few years.

    at 15 mph, 1853 RPMs
    %CO2, 15.4
    %O2, 0.1
    HC 11 ppm , Max is 222, Ave 40
    CO% 0.01 ,Max 1.41, Ave 0.17
    NO PPM 3, Max 1396, Ave 520
    at 25 mph, 2023 RPMs
    %CO2, 15.3
    %O2, 0.1
    HC 8 ppm, Max 190, Ave 31
    CO%, 0.01 , Max 1.21, Ave 0.15
    NO PPM 1, Max 1256, Ave 452

Catalytic Converter is Walker-Tennaco 81126 with Cal EO D182-65. I ordered it from Summit and Walker-Tennaco mfg. sent it directly to me. Eastern catalytic converters made in Pennsylvania will work as well and pass all tests new too. I called Walker-Tennaco and chatted with Catalytic people to verify the Cat. Last Time I talked with the Chairman of Tennaco years ago, he said I sounded like a Senior Vice President--that's Board Material,,lol.. Enjoy

    Cool

Man am I glad we don’t worry about stuff in TX. But, my new to me 82 sport has what looks like a new cat…it is a CA car after all and just recently was transplanted to TX. Along with everybody else

We don't need no air conditioning in California though.

California now has gas, the very cheapest regular at an off-brand gas station is $5.79. At the Chevron even the regular is over $6.

    Congrats on passing smog.
I find it a pain to have this done and getting more $$ every time. Got my car smogged last January. No info on the catalytic the PO had installed, did not look new to me, just know that the car has passed twice since my ownership.
Here is another data set for the team

    Cool

Gas Prices here are ridiculously High. There is a bill here to issue a rebate of $400.00 to every licensed driver. Could be here in July by debit cards, for people driving -100 miles each day 25 mpg, $6/gal , 400/6- 66.7 gals/4-16.7 days of free gas. I doubt gas prices will decline much in the near future, Biden shutoff exploration and development of oil on US Lands, even if they are opened it will take some time to find, drill, lift and transport oil to refineries. Business leaders in this are screaming at Biden to wake up, $112 per barrel of oil today.

Note: If you increase A/F mix baseline you increase HC's and decrease NO's ,run rich , if you decrease A/F mix baseline you decrease HC's and increase NO's, run leaner. For these cars the 3-way Catalytic converter does all the work, on bigger motors like 8 cylinders- many have 4 Cats-2 pre cats and 2 cats and cost a small fortune to replace. IC's Motors prefer rich settings and run cooler.

    Here is the test results.
