I have a 98 328i convertible and it looks like I’m missing a plug or drain in the convertible top storage area on the passenger side. There’s surface rust there so it seems like there must’ve been some kind of plug that held water? Anyone know what is supposed to be there? I’m trying to solve how water gets into my trunk and this looks like it could be the reason.

Why would you want a plug that holds water? The hole is a drain hole so water can get out. Use a coat hanger to GENTLY push into the hole to clear any debris that might be preventing the drain from working. That hole should drain to the outside. I forget where it drains, but into the wheel well comes to mind.
I wasn't sure if it was a drain hole or not. I know the two corners by the convertible top hinge are drain holes, but this one in the top passenger corner is a mystery to me. Just wanted to know if I was missing something there.
