Recall Status: Remedy Not Yet Available
Recall Number: 22V-119:407 POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE HEATER
I see this recall is a reoccurring problem and was done a few years ago to some models already. Does anyone know the depth of the repair to fix this and about how long it will take during the recall for the repair? It’s still listed as no remedy yet.
thanks
I did the previous recall on my '06 Z4 3.0si roadster, it had the magnesium valve cover and the PCV under the intake manifold. I no longer have that car.
I currently have an '07 Z4, same exact spec but it has the plastic VC with the PCV built into the top (terrible design replaced by newer, also terrible design). So I'm wondering if this even contains that PCV heater system at all, and if so, that means I could get a shiny new VC and fresh gaskets! ... eventually... when they produce a "remedy" - though they may literally just code it out from functioning, which would be a 20 minute job, versus a VC replacement, which blue books at dealers as 3.5 hr I think.
I just did a smog check on my '08 328i E93, and the smog place said that this is a new recall dated Mar. 01, 2022. I have all of the same information that you posted, but I also have the date that the recall was announced. I have to pull out my past information because I bought my car 2 years ago and had two open recalls, I have this one stuck in my head. Yes, it was for PCV VALVE HEATER RECALL, the recall number is different, but it appears to be the same recall. It's interesting that my smog station told me about it. (The recall did not affect the smog check, they only included the open recall on the report.)
EDIT
It's a recall for the same thing, but is a new version. NOT the same recall, a new recall for the same issue.

Crap, I think I received this recall letter last week. Can't remember what I did with the paper though, I think I threw it out because I thought it was in regards to the E70 X5 I recently sold.

Here it is.
One of the two recalls identified in this letter (Post #6) was done to my car. I have not gotten this letter yet.
My letter says that the fire may start when the car is not in use so I should not park it inside until there's a fix. Its a black car so keeping it clean is tough even when its inside at night. Does anyone have an idea how long it takes to get a fix?
Considering BMW doesn’t yet know HOW to fix it, it is going to be a while.

Well, logic says that the fire is an electrical fire, so you can prevent it by disconnecting the battery. This presents a variety of annoyances, but none of them include burning your garage to the ground, and your car will remain clean.
This is the second time they have made a recall for this issue, so I would suggest that there is a learning curve that they need to go through.
Hi does anyone think/know if this will involve replacing the valve cover gasket, as I need one replaced?

Does this apply to 2011 and newer?
Depends on the Model, but you can check here if there's an open recall: https://www.bmwusa.com/safety-and-emission-recalls.html
