Hello All,
I have a new to me 2011 BMW 328XI E90
When I start it it shows the car on lift with the word service
(Not exact, just took that from the net)
How do I know what service is needed?
If i go though the menu, I can't find anything, I find oil level which is ok, it shows a light bulb, but darn if I can find a light that is out.. but thats it when I scroll though.. or I'm missing it..
But more to the point, how do I figure out what service to do?
about 145K miles on clock..
Thank you!,

Okay, my car is telling me a similar thing, SERVICE comes on and there is an icon that indicates the Brake Fluid. I thought the car was telling me that the brake fluid was low, but it's telling me that the Service Interval has arrived.
Back in the olden days, BMWs (the E36) had an Oil Service, and a Service Interval I & II, the sequence was for the oil change, then interval 1, then oil change, then interval 2, then repeat. Each of these was an oil change plus a maintenance inspection/check for various things (belt wear, fluid levels, stuff that wears out), and the Interval II indicated fluids to be changed. Your car is telling you that it's time for a Service Interval, I do not know the difference in Interval 1 and Interval 2, but the BMW dealer knows. I have a Bentley Manual for my E36, and there is a chart that shows the Interval 1 and Interval 2 items.
Have the codes read. That's how you find out.
So there are no codes, my car just displays the car on the lift with the work service.
I assume it needs plugs, filters, etc, but it would be nice to know as I'm going to order some parts..
Thank you..
I've had this light come on before, could be a variety of things. I use a veePeak OBDII+ reader (~$40) along with the BimmerLink app (~$35). Connects via BT seamlessly, and makes it super easy to read error codes and reset the car's service intervals. Well worth the cost for doing some quick troubleshooting on your own.
