Hello,
Due to updated regulations here in France my E38 will be barred from driving near Paris by this time next year. I'm pondering my options for a replacement, mostly eyeing the F01 730i to avoid the turbo and keep the purchase reasonable or the hybrid N55. I don't care about horsepower above 250.
How would this car compare to my E38? Mostly reliability wise and costs, but other opinions welcome.
I'm a DIYer so about a day a month is spared to work on the car(s), I'm doing everything myself. It usually costs me on average between 1 and 2k€ to keep it running each year which includes both regular & preventative maintenance.
I own an E32 750il and DIY it also so we are probably equivalent in our expectations.
I recently, 8 months ago, bought an '11 740i and have had great experience. It has the N54 which has much information on the web, videos etc. I think I injectors and coils are all I've been expecting to go back and could use a walnut blast on the intake but it seems super reliable so far. And plenty of info and parts available.
The 2013+ cars are redesigned from the ground up engine wise. Fantastic reliability. As long as you are diligent about preventitive maint. These cars will run forever.
