    Engine froze?

I have 1999 bmw 5 series. Sat for a yr without running. Now, it won’t even jump, just makes a loud click sound. I assume the engine is frozen, does that mean the engine is toast and needs rebuild or new? Can it be unstuck?

I would check for proper battery charge with a multimeter. It's likely you just have low voltage.
If there are actual concerns that the engine is 'frozen' you can spin it clockwise via the crankshaft bolt on the bottom of the engine.

I agree it probably did not “freeze” unless maybe you overheated it and water got into the bore and rusted. Try manually rotating as suggested above.
