Engine overheated on my 2002 525, I think engine is done. Has anyone replaced
Their engine? Wanted to known if it's worth it to replace the engine
Or just get a new car. Either pay monthly again for a new car or just fix it. What do you guys think?
Hello --
I have pulled, replaced, smoked, tortured a number of engines which required R&R. If you have the tools and are inclined it really is not all that bad. You need some patience the first time until you figure out the gotcha's. Easiest way I have found is to get your wiring harness disconnected and pulled out of the way, unbolt AC compressor and power steering, intake manifold removed (not required but it is plastic and could break) cooling lines, fuel lines, radiator removed, hood in the "service" position by release the gas shocks and lifting hood to max point and locked in place with correct threaded bolts (look in the service manual). Then on the underside, remove, exhaust, driveshaft unbolted at forward guibo, trans lines removed and drained, then support trans and remove the cross member. Once you have all that done, you can lower trans, remove nuts on engine mounts and pull the engine and trans in one package. Hope this helps, let me know if you need more info.
