Current Build (non-M)
M Package / 20" Wheels / Convenience Package
Fully Loaded (M + Executive)
I have ordered a 2022 530e and my allocation is set to build the first week of March. So I have to finalize my order pretty quickly as the cut-off date for changes is approaching. I'm pretty comfortable on most things, but I really like the 20" 846M wheels which requires the M Package and are a $950 option, so adds about $2250 to the price.
I'm concerned about the electric range with the bigger wheels. I see on Teslas and other pure-EV manufacturers, that when you get bigger wheels, you lose range because of increased drag (quote from an article: "Wheel diameter can also make a big difference. Using coast-down resistance data Tesla submits to the EPA for efficiency testing, Fenske calculated that the range of a Model 3 Performance driven at a consist 75 mph was about 40 miles less with 20-inch wheels than with 18-inch wheels." Does anyone with a 530e have the 20" wheels and see less than optimal range?
Also, are the 20" performance tires summer only?
I am debating a few option combos but basically I can get the car with all my "mandatory" selections for $69,810. For $71,585, or $1700 more, I can go from Convenience Package to Executive Package. Is it worth it? I feel like I can get some audio upgrades for a lot less and I did sunshades ala carte. I am not sure HUC, Ceramic Controls & Gesture Controls are worth the rest of the $1700. Is the HiFi sound that bad?
Here are the builds I am considering, very open to any feedback:
With M & 20" Wheels but No Executive: $69,810
With Everything: $71,585
Current Build: $69,235
