Just wondering....
anyone ever witness/experience any unusual damage/cracking/ reduced performance when their extreme summer rubber was exposed or used a wee bit in snow/freezing temp?
Im keeping a car on streets this winter.......grrrrrrr.
What temperatures are we talking about? What brand and model tires? I have MPSS on my car and Michelin says drive slowly over a short distance if the temperature is much below 40*F. It also says not to move the car if the temperature is 20*F or less. I live in metro-DC and the temperature will be above 40*F today so I’ll take him for a long drive.
Great info

Don't. I drove Direzza Z2's in the winter once and that ruined the rubber. No more grip.
OTOH if you just wanted the 200tw tread pattern to flex at shows, and never have it wear out... yes, cryo-treating track tires is the way.

Thnx but elaborate pls
Drove on them
?
How. Once? All winter ??? Often ??
What temps
This is a track day ride ….
I've had probably 4 or 5 of sets of tires I started using mid-season that had plenty of tread left and were still very fast at the end of the season. I've left those tires on the car over the winter at times and I've also relocated some of those sets of tires to storage in my warm basement before it got cold. In both cases I noticed a fall off in feel and AX times the following season. Nothing drastic, but a 1-2% change can take you from the top of the leaderboard to mid-pack pretty quickly. It seems to be more pronounced with r-compound 200tw tires like the RE71R and A052. I never noticed that issue with Z2s, but they are a harder compound tire than some current offerings. Never saw any cracking in these tires, but I have seen cracking in max performance summer tires on my daily.
