Hello. I have a 2017 BMW 640. When changing the cabin air filter is it necessary to disconnect the negative post on the battery? I’m hoping I don’t have to And if I do need to disconnect the battery, well I have to reset Anything?
thank you
If you mean the ones inside below the glovebox…no, I didn’t disconnect the battery when I changed mine this past summer. You would only need to disconnect the neg battery cable if you are going to undo the electrical harness to the airbag. If you know which plug is for the airbag…you can leave it intact (be careful when moving the lowered panel out of the way. This will make the job go much faster. If you feel that you need to remove the airbag’s electrical harness…THEN YES, remove the negative battery terminal.
If you do undo the battery cable, you may need to reset the clock & date, you will need to reset the sunroof, and perhaps the one-touch windows. These reset instructions are in the owners manual as well as the built in version in iDrive…so if you do need to reset them, you can do a keyword search to find the instructions…or just use the voice commands to find the info in the built in manual.
Also do a search for youtube videos on how to change them. There are some videos that have you removing more screws than necessary on the lower section below the glovebox. If memory serves correct, the whole lower section was removable without taking it out in pieces.
