"Mission Creep" raises it's head again...

"If some is good, a lot is better" as the old saying goes. Everyone knows I'm a stickler for detail. I think "mission creep" is my middle name sometime.

Anyway, I am almost 2 years into the restoration of CSi #18. It is a one of one color combination for NA, and is the actual car Car and Driver did it's road test and article on in 1994. It was almost always been a southwest (Nevada) car after it was sold by BMW NA, and there has been no corrosion or rust. The Sun was not the kindest to the paint, so that has been totally redone. The interior has been stripped, redyed and refreshed, and is just as it was when it left the factory. New headliner completed. All new speakers have been ordered and received, and will be going into the OEM locations. Some speakers were sourced in the US, the rest in Canada.

I have started removing items from the engine compartment to refresh/clean/detail. The charcoal will be changed in the charcoal canister. All belts, hoses, vents will be replaced. While removing items, I have decided to remove the intake manifolds, refresh everything, check the Banjo bolts, remove the oil pan and check the oil pump bolts and chain tension.... you know.... mission creep.

Here is the completed paint as we are now...

Here is a picture where I am starting to remove items from the engine compartment. Just placed another order for all the PVC hoses, rear heater hoses, and valve cover gaskets. Lots of cleaning and detailing to do in addition to the mechanical items I am going to go through:

Nice! Keep those pics & updates coming.
Are you planning to refurbish the rear suspension like you did on the Alpina?

A few more pictures. Patrick (the painter) is finishing up refinishing the wheels. Here is a couple of shots. The black has been applied. The silver will come next, followed by the clear. Don't worry, the wheels are in good company - a Countach is keeping an eye on them. The Countach is undergoing a full restoration.

Been working diligently to finish the car. Yesterday all new fender liners (front and rear) were installed, along with the refinished calipers. I have had a set of ///M stickers for several years and decided to use them. Rotors only had about 1000 miles on them, so no need to replace. Motor is finished. Been working on the car almost 6 years now....I need to get it finished!

    Roger- really nice work!
I had a high school math teacher who liked to pile on the homework. When classmates complained she would tell us: "An idle mind is the devil's workshop".
Might this apply to you??.................ha ha ha

Can we see up close how the wheels turned out? I need mine refinished to factory-look and no wheel places around me seem comfortable recreating the exact way the throwing stars were done.

Sure - let me take a picture later on this week and I will post it. Patrick used the spare as a go by, and the black back paint is actually a metallic color that wraps back over onto the front side of the lip about an eighth of an inch or so.
