    '05 530i Supercharged

    Supercharged '05 E60 530i

    I'm new to the bimmer world; I bought this car a few months ago and just recently had the motor/transmission mounts, fuel filter, brakes, spark plugs and mass airflow filter changed. Drove it in the morning going to work, nothing significant happened; second shift gives me a hard time but I think that's a me problem.

    Started the car up just fine, let it sit for a minute, I shift into first gear and advance normally before it acts like it jumps over a bump and I hear a grinding noise; it was unreal. Anyway, there's no wiggle or play on either part so I have no idea what gave.

    Any help or insight on what might have cause this would be helpful. I didn't start the engine back up to prevent further damage. Still haven't been able to troubleshoot the issue due to the weather.

    To give more context to the image, since it was uploaded 90 degrees to the right. This is at the top of the engine, underneath the oil filter housing.

    M54 engine? We need better identification.
    Is that the water pump pulley? If yes, you need a new water pump and cooling system refresh. The water pump bearings failed.

    It looks to me like the tensioner assembly broke. or came unbolted. Still, you're basically going to want to replace the tensioner assembly. water pump, water pump pulley (that piece is custom) , the idler pulley and the belt.

    EDIT: Your supercharger isn't driven by that same belt is it? If so, that belt drive is likely severely overloaded - wasn't meant to take that sort of load.
