Hi
I put the engine out my 91 850i in order to proceed to some maintenance.
The firewall sound/heat insulation is completely cracked as shown below

I saw on this thread https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...8#post30750028
that the firewall seemed to have been replaced. Can somebody confirm that this product "cool it thermo guard" is the best choice ?
Thanks

Actually, the best choice is a brand new BMW factory replacement that, surprisingly, IS still available.
By the time you mess around with any aftermarket solution, you won't end up saving much for a far inferior result.
Part # is 51481970270

For your information, i tried to order a new BMW sound insulation but unfortunately here is the answer i got :
"Original BMW sound insulation bulkhead engine compartment (51481970270)
When calling from the central warehouse of BMW AG, we were informed that this part is no longer produced and also in the dealer network no stock exists. A new production is still in clarification."

Bummer... they had 200 a year ago
In my transmission tunnel I did the aluminum version with the asphalt/rubber backer. Worked good. However I can see towards the front where it gets hotter it has appeared to melt a little and run. Heat range is critical on the firewall where there is more heat.
