I just bought a e30 and a wrecked e36 for the motor it was a good condition daily driver before the accident it's sat for a while the catalytic converter got stolen and I got kt running but it has random none consistent knocking near the intake manifold side of the motor the maf was disconnected to get running and it doesn't have cats why would it be knocking the way it does I have a video if anyone wants to see to help please let me know 🙏 thanks

Forgot to mention it's a 1999 323i bmw e36 no cats it was wrecked at the rear end front end is perfect it blew a door side airbag
Your going to have to start looking at the basics for a miss fire. Do you have a CE light? From the missing cat only?
Potentially, with the catalytic converter gone, you are getting a lean condition.
Do you have INPA or a code reader that allows you to view fuel trims?

Check thoroughly for vacuum leaks, smoke test if you have to.
Not likely a cat issue or oxygen sensor issue but would probabilities set a code. Pre cat sensors on the exhaust manifold handle the mixture.
