Hi,
I have the AC Schnitzer side mirrors and the driver's side mirror was hit. I have been looking for a replacement for quite some time with not much luck. I was told that it was a BMW part, but we can not find which model they used. E36 M3 and E31 CSI glass are the same and don't fit this mirror. AC Schnitzer was not sure either but thought they might be E39 M5 glass - nope.
Numbers on the back are Dr side - 51 16 1521 and pass side - 51 16 1522
I attached a few pictures for reference. Sorry - pictures are upside down - can't seem to rotate them.
I am hoping there is an expert that found a solution to this problem.

This eBay seller has a few different auctions for similar shaped mirror glass

Thanks -
I have seen those in the UK. When I read into these ads from Europe, I find that the driver's side (their passenger side) is convex. Opposite from the US mirrors. I'm getting close to just buy a few of them to see if they come with flat glass.
I was hoping not to go that route.
Thanks for the quick reply!

Update...
AC Schnitzer seemed to use this mirror glass on the early models (e36, e46, e39) - they are more common therefore more pictures. Still no avenue to purchase them.
Anyone have details?

I would argue that the wrong ‘vexity’ is still better than no mirror until a better replacement is found.
Anyway, try directly looking on German Ebay. Search "schnitzer seitenspiegel"

Thanks - I'll have to buy a few of the one's that appear correct.

Let us know how it works out
I ordered the Left and Right from:
Benepits through eBay UK - Wing Mirror Glass Convex For BMW AC SCHNITZER Left BLUE /A028 13cm↔ x 9cm↕
Good communications with a long shipping delay to the ports issues, not their issue. I finally received them this week.
They arrived as ordered: Blue tint, heated and a backing generic plate for the BMW mirror motors. Unfortunately, they were slightly larger than the original AC mirrors and I wanted to re-use the AC backing plates. They would have worked with their plates but the size was not right. So, grind / sand them down to fit the real backing plates. I used a dremel with a very fine grinding wheel. And the work began: 3 - 4 hours of work and they are complete. Go real slow with a real slow grinding speed. It will chip easily.
Not the perfect solution considering the time required, but the results were real good. There are custom glass makers, but they were not able or willing to do such a small job. I may still work with them...
Here are the results and the car after paint...

I’m not entirely sure if ac schnitzer made mirrors for the e38, But the car I got came with them, thinking of going back to the stock mirrors.
Awesome! Looking good!
Thanks - and like you I believe in driving them... bought in 2001 and currently at 211k. No plans to sell, just keep driving!

From what I have learned is that the mirror glass and housing was used on many different BMW's (e36, e46, e39). The difference was they changed the bases to fit the car.
Still hoping to find a set of original glass... Dr side - 51 16 1521 and pass side - 51 16 1522
