hello everyone, just picked up this sweet 1988 735i with 84k miles! it has a few issues but trying to sort out over time.

welcome to the E32 forum, car looks nice, very low mileage.
Your temp gauge is a higher than normal, maybe the t-stat is broken and does not open complete. Temp gauge indicator should be at 12H +/- 2mm.
Also check the coolant level and that the return hose is open http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_19.htm
If all that does not help, check the water pump.
