Key Fob Program

I spoke to this guy who programs new key fob for cars. He made two new fobs for my Range Rover. I took my 95 e31 to get new key fobs from him. He said he could not do it because he doesn't have the software to program the e31. I'm wondering if its possible at all. Anyone have new fob programmed can share details?

I think it is like my mini cooper (bmw), only the dealer has the programming ability. I went to the most recommended key cutter in Portland, he could
cut the odd mercedes benz keys but couldn't do anything with the mini cooper and told me I had to go to the dealer.

Thanks for confirming CDrusn. Time the thing is I don't want the cheap rubber original BMW style key. Less than 3 years ago I had BMW made me a duplicate. The rubber exterior is thrashed already. I think ill get an after market alarm and attach the ket blade to an after market holder.

You will still need the transponder from the key - and you can get after-market keys with the correct blade and remote which has much tougher rubber (I have one) - lots of choices!

So I call my go to key guy again this morning. He said he should be able to get the program next year(2022). I hope so. Timm post pic where to get them please.

In the USA the remote Key fob will be 315 MHz

Timm, are you sure about this? I gave scheduled to add an after market alarm with remote start with a creditable alarm installer. they said it would work on my 95 840CI. that would contradict your assessment. I guess I will find out in three weeks when I take the car in.

Anyhow stock alarm/remote is a joke. I would have to be within inches of the car for the remote to work and sometimes it doesn't.

Timm, I just got done watching your video. Very informing. Thank you.���� I will get a blank key without the FOB and transfer the old one into it. Do you know if the transponder only required on 96 model and up to start the motor. I am scheduled to add an after market car alarm that includes remote start. I gave the shop year, model of my car and they said it was possible.

It seems the e31 is restricted to one style cheap rubber key housing. All it takes is a matter of transferring existing chip to a new key. Im somewhat surprised no outfit has created a flip type. I take it the e31 doesn't share many parts with the rest of the model and there isn't that many out there to generate enough demand?

My friend had remote start fitted to his E38 - the alarm company hid the transponder inside the steering column covers adjacent to the transponder coil. Worked a treat. Here's some blurb on the EWS system:
