Hi, I'm currently working on a ls swap in a e46. I'm using a 4L60e automatic transmission. My e46 originally had the steptronic shifter. I need just a regular PRND321 type shifter. Did any e46 come with this type of shifter or would possibly one from a e36 fit?
Thanks in advance
The very early e46s came with that type of shifter, and the e36 did as well. However, you may have issues trying to get the bezeltry to fit around it. I would look for the E46 style. If that doesn't work, consider using the shifter from the donor car and putting a generic black leather shift boot over it.
Good luck!

What are you using to control the 4L60E?
Some of the standalone trans control modules have inputs for up/down shifts ie; paddle shifters. You could very easily tie into the up/down microswitches in the shifter for this.

I'm using a 0411 gm pcm. I'd prefer to have a mechanical connection between the shifter and transmission to shift the lower gears manually. I'm not a fan of paddle shifters. Same reason I went drive by cable throttle body instead of drive by wire. Just personal preferences. I do appreciate the suggestion though.
