1993 740i radio stuck in weather band

purchased a 1993 740i this weekend, radio was displaying "code",
found the code and unlocked the radio, but now while radio is "on" we are only getting the weather band (WB), and "TAPE" to display

i can switch back and forth from WB and TAPE (and can hear the Weather announcements) but cannot get FM to activate when pushing the "BAND" button (also radio does not seem to accept a cassette in TAPE mode or WB mode but i'm more concerned about getting FM radio working)

any suggestions? the button doesn't appear to be stuck, is this an issue with the radio having been locked?

someone on the e32 forum suggested maybe "TAPE" mode is stuck in "a cassette is inserted mode" and that FM does not activate because it thinks a cassette is already inserted

is this an easy fix to "Reset" the cassette position? can i do it from inside the car without removing/opening the radio

    Hi,

Have a search for any car audio repaor specialists who might be able to take it in and repair/overhaul it.It's nearly 30 years old and electronics deteriorate over time. Hopefully on the E32 section there might be more tips to try and a easy fix perhaps, but if not, you'll need to take it out and send away etc. If there's nowhere that does it, you'll perhaps need to look internationally or, upgrade to a new modern unit

    Cheers, Dennis!

    Try a electrical system reset:
    - disconnect the negative cable from the battery
    - disconnect the positive cable from the battery
    - short the cables together for at least 10 minutes
    - reconnect the positive cable to the battery
    - reconnect the negative cable to the battery (sparks are ok)
    - reset the clock.

took the radio out and opened it and put a piece of sticky tape (not cassette tape) to keep that switch in place and now radio is working
