E39 540iT will not idle when cold?

I live in Phoenix where it is just a little warm in the summer , and my 2000 540iT starts and runs just fine......usually the temp needle has already moved up a little off the stop before I get into the car.
But when the weather gets cooler, like now, and the temp in the morning is down in the chilly 50's, the car will start and then immediately stop. If I keep jazzing the gas peddle for about 5 seconds then the motor will keep running and then idle nicely after another 5 seconds !!? then it will start and run well for the rest of the day
    .
Is there a cold start system on these M62TU motors? And is it possible that it is sticking when it is cold, but just for a few seconds?
Or is there something else that will cause this problem.....ONLY when its cold?

I have heard it is the Vanos system that causes poor idling when cold.

The vanos idle/stalling when cold is more of an i6 problem.
There is no mechanical cold start on the M62tu engine. The non-tu engine has a idle control valve.
The M62tu uses the dual temp sensor in the water pump, the temp sensor in the MAF, RPM, etc. to help determine how much fuel to inject when you start the engine.
You could have a vacuum leak, get it smoke tested. Also checked to make sure there isn’t a lot of carbon buildup in the throttle body.
