Hello, I've read several posts that seem to address certain aspects of my issue but not my actual issue. I'm trying to determine what the culprit could be as fixes don't stay 'fixed':
A) Original Key = dead
B) Replacement Key (aftermarket) = starts car but fob doesn't work.
C) Replacement BMW key (programmed by dealership) = fob works but will not start car
If I start the car with key B, then turn it off, keys A and C will start the car. However that will only last for a few minutes, then it reverts back to original behaviour. Same thing if I try the programming method with the "unlock hold + lock button x 3"
Is this a central locking module issue or should I be able to have 2 (or 3 if keeping the original to start only) keys programmed in the system? The car battery is fine and there have been no interruptions with power.
I appreciate your thoughts around this.
Thanks!
Welcome to the Forum!
For some reason the EWS is blocking 2 of your keys from working properly, so best bet is to get it scanned to see what is going on.
I think it will have something to do with your aftermarket key and how it was programmed by a 3rd party.

Thanks! I am having the EWS reprogrammed so we'll see if that resolves it. As I understand, the commands/control for the key fob (door locking etc.) is not in the EWS?
The controls for the keys will be found in the GM-5, the EWS just interacts with the chip inside the key and only when it goes into the ignition switch. Now you can take pretty much any diamond key and program them to work with the remote lock/unlock features and of course they won't start the car.
If your first key is dead, this guy offers a service for that: www.bmwgm5.com
