M30 sounds like a diesel

My 1985 735i sounds like a diesel, both when idle and under load. Just had the cylinder head refreshed, replaced camshaft (due to worn lobes), rocker arms, lapped all the valves, replaced timing and oil pump chains and sprockets, timing chain guide. The motor has 270k on the clock. It did sound dieselish before repairs but I was hoping that it would go away after all the works done. Nope, still there. Coming from the top of the engine, sounds like valves (just had them adjusted to 0.35 mm). How does m30 should sound like?
